One of the best parts about my job is that I’ve had the chance to visit some small, charming towns across the United States that may have otherwise flown under my radar.
Now, as you probably know (cuz I have a terrible habit of repeating myself but hey, at least I’m consistent) I’m a big fan of locally sourced produce, homemade goodies and crafts made by young hipsters and cute grandmas. Basically, markets and street fairs are right up my alley.
This year, our tour itinerary for work included some small towns I’d never been to before. Without trying, I kept stumbling upon the CUTEST markets as I’d casually explore the town. It became one of my favorite things to do when visiting small town America. These markets are a gathering space rooted in tradition, made for memory making and filled with lots of homegrown love!
The Milwaukee Public Market
Milwaukee, WI
The Milwaukee Public Market stole my heart the minute I walked through the door. It’s filled with artisan products, freshly prepared food by local merchants and unique gems, like a book corner where every book is a dollar! There’s not an inch of this space that isn’t picture perfect. Literally… I took 143 pictures. Making this spot even cuter, the Milwaukee Market has fun events year round like cooking classes and seasonal festivals.
Grab a coffee at the small batch roaster, Anodyne (it was so yummy!), try a cheese curd and say hello to all the friendly vendors. My morning spent here will forever be a fond memory!

Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market
Allentown, PA
When you visit the Allentown Fairgrounds you’re not just checking out a market – you step through the doors and you step into a community. The 60 local merchants that make this clock turn pride themselves in taking care of the people within their town and that message shines through in their food. Local produce, preserves, baked goods, sweets and family owned restaurants of every sort is what you find within the walls of this fairground market.
Whether you’re going in for a grocery shop or just popping by for a meal, this piece of Allentown history has it all. Besides every vendor’s goodies being delicious, the friendly smiles and family feel is what gives this market its character and charm. Be sure to set aside an ample amount of time for your visit. This Allentown Farmers Market has been in full swing for 63 years and there’s A LOT to see!

River Market District
Little Rock, AR
Described as the “lifeblood” of Little Rock’s Downtown scene, the River Market district spans the length of President Clinton Avenue and offers an all-encompassing experience, not just a great place to grab a meal. On any given day you could find live music, art, a craft fair, volunteer opportunities and of course local and international cuisine. Even after only having a weekend in Little Rock, you can feel that this area of town is definitely the place to be!
The Ottenheimer Market Hall is where the good eats are! It’s a social, public food market with a diverse set of options all the way from tasty baked goods to barbeque to Indian fare. Grabbing a meal or snack here makes you feel as though you are part of the Little Rock mix!
If you take a walk down President Clinton Avenue you’ll find that the small town market and shops continue. A few blocks away from the Ottenheimer Market Hall you’ll comes across Nexus Coffee and Creative – a fun, young spot for a good cup of joe and great conversation!
